Two young women build a strong and trusting relationship flying British planes during World War II over France. Maddie is killed but Queenie aka “Verity” is captured and imprisoned by the Nazis. Her only chance to survive is to disclose information pertaining to her secret mission. Verity is given paper and pen to write her confession as she discovers truths about herself and the war around her. Wein’s historical fiction and spy thriller for young adults discloses how the war brought the two young women from two different backgrounds and opposite personalities together in England.  There are many twists and turns from fact to fiction that keep you interested in finding out if “Verity” prevails or not.

  1. This is one of those books that I had an IMMENSELY hard time getting through, for both plot development and personal reasons. If it weren’t for my book club (FYA San Diego) assigning it, I don’t think I would have picked it.

    If I hadn’t slogged through the first half, I never would have made it to the amazingly well done second half. That said, I definitely recommend it!
