Dry by Augusten Burroughs

Dry is a memoir about Mr. Burroughs’ descent into alcoholism, and how it affected his career and relationships. He managed to bluff his way into the advertising business in New York with no experience, and became very good at it. I listened to the audiobook, read by the author. The narration was compelling, funny, and at times poignant.
Mr. Burroughs is forced to take time off and go to rehab, and during the aftercare, falls in love with a crack-addicted fellow patient. At the same time, his best friend is dying, and Augusten slowly realizes how much he loves him.
