Piedad “Piddy” Sanchez is attending a new school because her mother decided they needed better living quarters. Piddy is abruptly stopped in the hallway by another student to inform her that “Yaqui Delgado wants to kick your ass.” Piddy has no idea who Yaqui Delgado is or the reason why she wants to hurt her. This declaration transforms Piddy’s life into a world of emotional pain, fear, and uncertainty. This book is a poignant example of what victims of bullying suffer at the hands of the bully. The reader follows the transformation in Piddy’s life because of her bully. Piddy was once an honor student, high achieving and goal centered student at her previous school. Now she lives looking over her shoulder, her grades are dwindling and she even considers dropping out of school because of Yaqui Delgado. The title draws you into its contents and the story is extremely relevant to the bullying issues children have faced in the past and continue to face today.
